However, women need not worry too much because these stretch marks are bound to go away slowly, in about 12 months after giving birth, but then again, the best thing that could be done is to minimize them. This is where those ointments and cremes come in, the most popular of which is tretinoin and glycolic acid. Laser treatments have likewise been recommended, but all it could do is to help these stretch marks blend into the color of the skin. So in effect, it is still there, but this time, it has been camouflaged to reflect to be part of the skin.
There are also some home treatments to remove it. We can just massage the area where it has appeared or, we can try applying a special mixture of ground coffee beans mixes with olive oil on the affected area by rubbing it in a circular motion. We then wash it away and wrap a hot towel around the affected area so that the skin would absorb the mixture. After ten minutes, we can remove the towel and wash again the skin. Repeating the procedure twice a week will effectively reduce these ghastly marks.
Though we cannot avoid it, we can certainly do something to prevent it. One way of doing so is by simply by drinking lots of water, or just follow the recommended intake of 8 glasses a day in order to ensure that our skin gets the required hydration. If our skin is hydrated enough, it will become soft, so stretch marks are not likely to develop. On the other hand, drinks rich in caffeine such as coffee and soda tend to promote dehydration, and this makes us more prone to having these stretch marks. Also, women should eat those foods rich in vitamins A, C and D, as well as those high on proteins and zinc. This will help promote healthy skin which can easily discourage it from surfacing on our bodies.
