The Pleated Skirt Look Book

The past few seasons have been ground breaking when it comes to fashion trends resurfacing that we would never have thought would have. Firstly we had 80s inspired clothing, a decade that no one would have drawn inspiration from unless they had a gold encrusted Gucci gun pressed against their temples. Midi skirts, the choice of dowdy librarians, have been revitalised, beating even the newly resurrected maxi length garments as the spring/summer fashion essential. Now there’s another trend that no one would have imagined coming back and poking it’s – up until now – unwanted head round the parapet of sartorial elegance. That trend? The pleated skirt.

Advocating a pleated skirt is the fashion equivalent of recommending a Jane Austen book as a holiday read. Has a terrible reputation but in practice, enjoyable and easy to digest. So to help you dodge the Lizzie Bennetts and Mr Whickhams of pleated skirts, read on as we take a lazy walk down the upcoming trend and show you just how to rock this item this season.

With the colour palette of the high street changing from the Scary Spice infused blacks, silvers and garish patterns to feminine nudes and pastels, pleats are a great way to emphasise the colours, shapes and textures of the frill seeker movement.

How To Wear

Pleats are coming in all shapes and lengths this season; midi, maxi and mini, and in literally all colours under the emerging spring sun. Crayon shades are available for those with a penchant for pussy bow blouses, vivid regal colours ready for the summer nautical trend and stark monochrome hues for the office owls amongst you.
